Pownce, one of many alternative Twitters, is now about dead. Six Apart, owner of TypePad just purchased them.

The founders of Pownce announced they are closing their social networking platform and joining Six Apart - the creators of Movable Type, TypePad and Vox, the company blog announced today .

I received an email earlier this evening letting me know that Pownce was going to be shut-down as of December 15th.

With the demise of Pownce in two weeks . . . it's interesting to note that Twitter has been growing at 343% according to Nielsen: I find the growth rates of all the social media sites fascinating.

The death of Pownce seems to have been a big news-getter. It's unclear why except that star-power was behind the company .

Much-discussed startup Pownce Inc. is shutting down its service and has been sold to blog software maker Six Apart Inc., according to posts from Pownce co-founder Leah Culver and Six Apart's Chris Alden .

Users send messages, files, links, and events to friends. Basic and pro accounts. Currently only limited registrations are accepted.

The Pownce site has been acting a little wonky this weekend. One of our databases was not keeping up to date, resulting in displaying old notes instead of your most recent ones.
